Looking for Diatomaceous Earth or DE? Dave and I bought some (food grade) last March and totally forgot to write about it, but before I reveal to you where I got our stock from, let's talk about what DE is exactly, first.
DE goes by many names other than diatomaceous earth, it is also known as dinosaur dust, miracle mineral, fossil shell and ancient treasure. Generally considered safe, diatomaceous earth comes from the remains of diatoms, or oceanic unicellular algae. Diatoms are hard-shelled algae that come from bodies of water, a type of fossilized phytoplankton, typically sold in powder form and used for a wide variety of needs. DE has a high silica content which makes it good for our skin and hair. Studies also show that DE has a negative charge which proves to be useful when it comes to health considerations.
