Hand Blender Review

I've always wanted to own an emulsion blender as far as I can remember. I had a fixation on it for years but never really found one that I liked enough to purchase whenever I looked, until I saw the 3 in 1 Desire hand blender by Russell Hobbs. I told Dave about it and we started saving up for it since I knew for a fact that it was going to be handy to have one around the house, even though my husband wasn't that quite sold on the idea yet. He doesn't watch as much cooking shows as I do, so he isn't that knowledgeable about the usefulness of a hand blender in the kitchen.

Come December last year, my mom came home from Africa for a vacation and I saw a chance to check if Duty Free had it in there appliance department. Purchasing big key items from Duty Free is a sure way to save money, since everything there is tax free! I was so ecstatic to see a unit of the hand blender on display, priced at $80, so I immediately told my mom that we needed one. So I got it as one of our Christmas gifts from her. Practical, right? Haha. We also got a Hurom slow juicer and a new Samsung front load washer from Duty Free as gifts as well, which we'll write reviews about soon!

Now on to the review. The Desire 3 in 1 hand blender sure is a delicious mix of form and function, since it combines mixing, chopping, and whisking in a choice of two speed settings. I just love the stylish black matte finish that is complemented with bits of red, which is one of my favorite color combos of all time. It looks good in our kitchen too haha. Check out this short video about it, that I found on Youtube.

The first time that we used our new kitchen helper was to make baby food from scratch. You can blend the boiled or steamed vegetables directly in the pot. Yes, you don't have to transfer the ingredients to mash it, which makes it easier to use than the standard blender with the glass pitcher that we all know of. The end result was a silky smooth batch of mashed veggie goodness that we could never really achieve using our old blender. And it really didn't take that long to get the consistency and smoothness that we wanted.

Dave was so impressed by it, especially when it came to making burger patties from scratch because it only took a couple of minutes to chop all of the vegetables for the mix. You gotta admit that mincing root veggies is a bit time consuming when you do it by hand, even with a sharp knife. Now he's thinking along the lines of making peanut butter, mayo and marinara sauce from scratch with our sturdy 3 in 1 hand blender.

Our new kitchen tool is obviously high quality since it can easily take on even the hardest ingredients like raw root vegetables or even ice, in a cinch, that low end blenders will have a hard time breaking down. Another great thing about it, is the stainless steel attachments included, making it safe to use when we deal with hot food. No fear of metal leaching out into whatever we are preparing and it goes well with all of our other stainless steel cookware that we've been putting together for our kitchen arsenal for 3 years now.

It isn't that complicated to use or put together when you need it. There are a lot of intimidating kitchen tools in the market right now, but this hand blender isn't one of them. It has two speed settings that you only need to press lightly to do the mixing, whisking or chopping for you. I didn't even need to read the manual to figure out how it works. Dave did the reading (he told me about it afterwards), but mostly for the cleaning part and the do's & don'ts, to make sure that we take care of it properly.

Clean up is a breeze compared to the standard blender and since it's compact, finding storage for it in our kitchen wasn't a problem we had to deal with.

Sorry, we really couldn't take that much pictures of when we use this trusty kitchen tool, because we usually get it out when we want to prepare something in a jiffy and don't have a lot of time in our hands!  Since we are parents of a grade schooler, 2 toddlers and a new born, we find ourselves almost always pressed for time on a daily basis. It can get crazy busy which is another reason why we love our new kitchen buddy! It helps us save time on kitchen preps!

We give the Russell Hobbs Desire Series 3 in 1 Hand Blender two thumbs up! It's a great addition to anyone's kitchen! We seriously stretched our peso in getting this new toy for our home!
