Tuesday (August 15, 2017) morning was supposed to be like any other day, you wake up early, eat breakfast, prepare for a busy day at work ahead and book an Uber ride to the office. But then, this particular image greeted you when you tried:
I know that a lot of Filipinos in Metro Manila will agree with my reaction upon seeing this pop up on my screen, "You have got to be kidding me! Noooooooooooo!" I immediately checked Uber's official Facebook page and saw their post regarding the matter, which confirmed the nightmare that was about to befall Metro Manila commuters who depend heavily on Uber and Grab to get to there destination on a daily basis:
"In
compliance with the LTFRB order issued on August 14, 2017, we are
temporarily suspending operations starting at 6:00am, Tuesday August
15th. We understand that this will impact thousands of riders and
drivers, and we apologize for the inconvenience this will cause.
We are still deeply committed to serving you, and are doing everything we can to resolve this situation in the soonest possible time We are grateful for the support you have given us." - Uber

There has been many reactions upon learning this sudden turn of events this morning, in regards to the suspension of Uber's services and most of them are negative or just downright violent. People are obviously upset that their convenient ride is now gone, which is understandable. Who wouldn't be upset, right? As for Grab? Well, if you do the math, you'd know that there is no way they can serve everyone now that the competition is suddenly out of the game, temporarily.
By the way, Uber will not be able to operate for a month. Yes, a whole MONTH!
In my honest opinion, I think that the LTFRB's ruling on this is way too harsh. Just look at how lenient they are when it comes to taxi company violations, compare that to how they are dealing with Uber and Grab? They've been so strict with these 2 who have been giving us way better service than taxis ever gave us or ever will, seeing as how nothing has improved for years. Simply put, the LTFRB is just not being fair.
Not everyone in the metro owns a set of wheels to conveniently go from one place to another, and quite frankly some of those who do own a car now prefer to just commute due to the ever problematic heavy traffic they have to face daily. Uber and Grab are heaven sent to some, and the LTFRB should take that into consideration before deciding to suspend one of the most trusted and reliable ride sharing service in the country as of yet.
To the daily commuters who rely on Uber, I feel you guys. You'll get through the month without Uber, it won't be easy I know but look at the bright side, it won't be forever.
