DIY crafting has been a passion of mine since I can remember, but I never really pursued it seriously until the last 2 years or so. Too busy or maybe I was just too lazy haha! Anyway, my craft arsenal has grown quite a bit for the past couple of months and here is a recent addition to my tools that I am excited to share with you.
In the kitchen, for me, it's all about great knives but in the craft world, an amazing pair of scissors can make all the difference when tackling DIY projects. Here's a set that I purchased months ago from a local online craft store after weeks of searching on the internet.
The Tim Holtz craft scissors is one of the most raved about scissors in the paper crafting world by far. I stumbled upon this wonderful set of shears from an FB Live video of a DIY blogger that I started to follow online. She was making ornaments using homespun fabric and was using the 7-inch Tim Holtz scissors to cut strips of cloth so easily that I knew then and there, that I had to own a pair. I couldn't find one that was on hand locally for a few months after my hunt began. It was on Amazon, but I didn't really want to wait that long. While I was still looking, I continued to watch more live craft project videos of the same DIY blogger who was showcasing just how versatile her scissors were, which of course, fuelled my need to get one in a hurry even more haha. She used it on card stocks, flower stems, twigs, pipe cleaners, thin wires, ribbon, twine, foam sheets, a sweater, plastic and even leather. I was impressed.
When I finally got around to tracking down a local store that had it in stock, I was delighted to find out that she had all 3 sizes. So I bought the 5-inch, 7-inch and 9.5 inch which Tim Holtz released due to critics saying that the blades of the 5 and 7-inch ones were too short to cut fabric.
Now, let me count the reasons why I love my Tim Holtz Tonic Studio Craft Scissor Set so much:
- Non Stick Coating
I've lost count of how many scissors we had to throw away in the past due to adhesive build up on the blades which also made them quite dull and useless in the end. I use a ton of adhesive tapes in my daily life, masking, heavy duty packaging and double-sided tapes mostly,
Hardly anything sticks to the blades of the Tim Holtz craft scissors and even if a little adhesive does get on it... you can easily wipe it off! - Kush Grip Handles
The extra large Kush grip handles are specifically designed for comfort and delivers on the promise. Your hands won't get tired from cutting when you use these. - Strong Scissors
Cuts through cardboard, thick packaging plastics, thick ropes, fabric, sheet rubber, vinyl and even leather. - Micro Serrated Edge
One blade has a micro-serrated edge which improves the grip of the scissors and allows you to easily cut through fabric such as felt or even silk. - Pointed Tip
Allows you to cut into small corners for fine detailed work. - Non Corrosive and Rust proof
Perfect for tropical countries like the Philippines!
- Protective Plastic Cap
Comes with a plastic cover to place back on when not in use, for safe storage!
Now let's tackle the so-called con:
- Micro Serrated Edge - It does leave a finely serrated cut edge visible on the paper/card stock which doesn't look good for some projects. I use my guillotine cutter to cut card stock instead.
So far, I really love these scissors and take them out whenever I do crafts. Both the 5 and 7-inch ones are priced at $12 on Amazon while the 9.5-inch is at $19, shipping not included.
Here are 2 local shops that sell these online:
