A couple of years back, I wrote an article (<a href="http://www.stretchyourpeso.com/2015/02/diy-party-preps-1st-birthday.html" target="_blank">here</a>) about our 3rd child's first birthday party which I humbly DIY-ed, it mostly had pictures of the event itself and the links to our amazing suppliers. Now, here we are again preparing for our youngest one's 1st, but this time we are putting together a double celebration since the Little Miss Banshee and our Little Boy Wonder's special days are just a couple of weeks apart. It'll double the fun for sure!</div>

We started prepping for the small soire since June and even had the venue booked that month since we knew how hectic December is for parties and we wanted that detail locked in the earliest. When I inquired about the availability of one of two of their spaces I was glad that only the big one upstairs wasn't up for grabs any longer. Since I had some elderly relatives on the guest list, a room where you needed to take a couple of flights of stairs to get to just wouldn't fit the bill. Anyway, the open space area we picked was smaller and cozier, just right for the number of guests that we planned to invite to our do.<br />

I would have loved to DIY everything like the last time, but being a wife, (now) mom of 4 and writer, I already have a lot on my plate, even without the party to plan. So Dave and I decided to get help from the experts when it comes to party plannings. Yes, we got ourselves an event planner. But it's a kind of Semi-DIY party even with an expert taking the wheel, in a sense, because right after booking the venue I went ahead and booked the caterer, milk tea booth and cupcakes suppliers from before. It was a couple of months after June that I got in touch with <a href="http://www.facebook.com/EventologyTeamPH/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Eventology By Miss Presentation</a> with our party needs. Oh and I'm also going to throw in easy DIY loot bags which will be a craft project for Miss Artsy to add to her homeschool portfolio in MAPEH. Yes, I'm going to make her do most of the work haha. I also did the design for the magnets we're giving out to the guests as a thank you for coming, working on the layout for the digital photobooth this week too.<br />
<br />
Yes, I am still doing my fair share and personal little touches for the upcoming party, but the bigger job, in my honest opinion, which is the onsite coordinating of the event won't be mine, thank goodness! At last I will be able to focus on just being a breastfeeding mom & hostess alongside Dave, making sure to get around to all the tables & groups chatting them up as much as we can while keeping our kids in check. I can foresee a laid-back birthday party, on my part, in a couple of weeks. Whew! Usually I get so stressed-out when the date is getting nearer, actually fretting it, but now it's such a relaxing feeling to know that it'll all be taken cared of without you having to do much. God bless event planners!<br />

Raising readers is fun but can be a bit challenging once your kids discover the wonderful world books can take them to. Challenging how, you ask? Well, they'll run out of books in no time that they'd end up bugging you for more titles on a regular basis. That was definitely the case for my 6th grader, she gobbles chapter books up faster than I can purchase them for her. She has also found a couple of book series that she'd like to collect and has appointed yours truly to hunt down each book to complete the sets she has her eyes on. Book sales are great and helped me a lot in this quest, especially those warehouse clearance ones that are held on an annual basis. I found a lot of the books on my list (not all of them though) and discovered ones that I knew Miss Artsy would be interested in and would fit in the home library we are building perfectly. But what if you can't afford to go to the said warehouse because you live islands away or it would take at least 8-hours straight of driving to get there? This is where online shops like Bookery for Mums and Kids and SecondBooktique come in to save the day. They're stores that sell used/brand new books at bargain prices all year round! </div>

I stumbled upon these shops through joining the Awesome Book Swap! Facebook group which I was told about in the Philippine homeschool community my family is a part of. Here, I found preloved/brand new books and other educational materials being sold at discounted prices. I then started to become an active buyer in the group and found out that some of the parents (the ones I purchased from) actually had online stores for the items they were selling, they just cross post them on the group as well.<br />

I scored hard to find books like iSpy, Charlie and Lola, Nat Geo, Time For Kids, Usborne books, The Magic Tree House, The Boxcar Children, Choose Your Own Adventure, Jigsaw Jones, Roald Dahl works, Babysitter's Club, and so much more. They have books for kids of all ages, sometimes even up to teens. Looking for board books for babies, pop ups, hardbound or paperbacks? You'll find it there. Heads up! The MMDA announced that the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic or IACT has 
decided to enforce the removal of the “window hours” rule of the number 
coding scheme on October 17, two weeks earlier than the set October 
31 schedule.<br /><br /><div class="copy-paste-block">
Tim Orbos, the MMDA General 
Manager, said that the dry run to test the no “window hours” rule from 10 am 
to 3 pm will be implemented today until Friday this week.<br />
<br />

During the three-day dry run, Highway Patrol Group and MMDA 
traffic enforcers manning roads will be conducting an information campaign. 
They will not be issuing any traffic violation tickets on violators but will only 
be reminding them of the rule.<br />
<br />

Aside from Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) and C5, the 
rule will be expanded to other areas, including Alabang-Zapote Road, 
Roxas Boulevard and whole Mandaluyong City. Cities of the Makati and Las
 Pinas do not implement window hours.<br />
<br />

“The earlier enforcement of the rule was based on the 
request of the IACT to reduce vehicular traffic as Christmas nears. This
 is for the immediate effect of the reduction as traffic is foreseen to 
worsen toward Christmas,” said Orbos.<br />

The IACT shall assess the 
impact of this specific measure and determine whether it created a positive impact
 in alleviating traffic congestion in Metro Manila.<br />
<br />

The assessment will then be submitted to the Metro Manila 
Council, composed of Metro Manila mayors, who can finally decide if the measure 
will be implemented permanently.<br />
<br />

“If it’s effective, it will be decided by the council,” said Orbos.<br />
<br />

Under the current number coding scheme, vehicles are banned from 
major roads from 7 AM to 7 PM except during the 10 AM to 3 PM window 
hours.<br />
<br />

Under this traffic system, vehicles with plate numbers ending
 in 1 and 2 are not allowed outside on Mondays, 3 and 4 on Tuesdays, 5 
and 6 on Wednesdays, 7 and 8 on Thursdays and 9 and 0 on Fridays respectively.<br />
<br />
Let's all hope for the best and that the heavy traffic plaguing the metro will at least lessen if not totally eradicated.<br />
